Chapter 107 Sarah pov.
The rest of our days in Hawaii felt like a breath of fresh air. Isabelle was nowhere in sight, and I finally let myself relax.
It was just the two of us again, enjoying everything this beautiful island had to offer.
We snorkeled, ate more fresh pineapple than I thought possible, and watched the sun dip into the ocean every evening.
My unease from our previous encounters faded slowly, replaced by the warm, comforting feeling that I could finally let my guard down.
This was what I had wanted all along-peace, just Richard and me, without any odd distractions.
As the trip cto an end, I felt a strange relief. Don't getwrong-I loved Hawaii, every beach and sunset, every little moment we shared here.
But leaving meant leaving Isabelle behind, and I was more than okay with that. I didn't even want to think about her as we packed up, heading back to our daily lives and routines. We had gotten what we cfor-a much- needed recharge-and I was eager to take that feeling hwith us.
Back at home, things settled into a comforting rhythm. I dove back into work, back into the familiarity of our day- to-day life.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtIt was nice to fall into routines again, to spend nights cooking together, planning weekends, and dreaming up new places we wanted to visit.
That odd chapter in Hawaii felt like it was slowly slipping into the background, the memory of Isabelle fading like a story I'd once read but barely remembered.
Life was normal again. Peaceful. And I felt safe in that.
One evening, after a busy week, Richard suggested we go out for a nice dinner. It felt like a sweet, thoughtful way to keep the vacation vibe going.
So we dressed up and headed downtown, hand in hand, laughing as we shared stories from our week.
We found a little bistro with dim lights and soft music playing in the background. I loved the coziness of it. We ordered a glass of wine, shared an appetizer, and talked about anything and everything.
There was a moment when I looked at him, and I felt that familiar warmth-a feeling of being exactly where I was meant to be, with exactly the person I was meant to be with. I leaned over, smiling, "So, any plans to takesomewhere new soon?" Richard chuckled. "I don't know if I can top Hawaii," he teased. "But I'm always up for the challenge." We laughed, lost in our own little world. But then, out of the corner of his eye, I saw him freeze.
His gaze drifted toward the large window beside our table, his face going still as if he'd seen a ghost. "Sarah... look," he whispered, barely moving.
I followed his gaze, and my heart dropped. Isabelle was standing across the street, looking right at us.
Even from a distance, I could see she wasn't the put-together woman we'd met in Hawaii.
Her hair was messy, her clothes wrinkled, and her eyes held a frantic look I didn't recognize.
I felt a chill run through me, that familiar, uncomfortable feeling creeping back. "Is... is she watching us?" I asked quietly, my voice barely audible.
Richard shook his head, clearly as taken aback as I was. "I don't know. Maybe it's just a coincidence." "Right," I muttered, feeling my heart pound. But the last tI had thought her presence was just a coincidence, she had shown up at our table.
And now she was here, miles from Hawaii, looking straight at us with the spiercing eyes.
A part ofwanted to get up and leave, to put as much distance between us and Isabelle as possible.
But before I could say anything, she started walking toward us, her steps slow and unsure. I felt a twist of dread in my stomach. This couldn't be happening again.
When she finally reached us, she looked even worse up close-her eyes were red, like she hadn't slept in days, and there was a desperation in her expression that made my stomach clench. "Richard... Sarah..." Her voice was shaky, barely above a whisper. She looked between us, and for a moment, I thought she might break down. "I... I didn't know you both would be here." Richard and I exchanged a glance, and I could see the sconfusion mirrored in his eyes.
"What's going on, Isabelle?" Richard asked, his tone cautious but polite.
She took a shaky breath, wiping her eyes. "I... I was robbed," she said, her voice cracking. "All my things... my wallet, my ID... gone. I don't have anywhere to go." My first instinct was sympathy, but something heldback. After everything, I wasn't sure I could believe her, even if she did look genuinely upset.
"Isabelle... we're really sorry to hear that," I started, choosing my words carefully. "But we're not sure how we can help..." She looked at me, and there was a rawness in her eyes, something almost pleading.

I felt Richard shift beside me, clearly as taken aback as I was. I wanted to help-I really did-but every instinct was screaming atto be cautious.
"Look," Richard said slowly, his tone gentle but firm. "This... It's a lot. We've barely just gotten back ourselves, and I think... maybe we could help you find a shelter or a place where-" "I just need a night," she interrupted, her voice sharp but wavering. "Just one night, I promise. I don't have anyone else, and I thought... After Hawaii... I thought maybe I could trust you." Her words hung in the air, heavy and uncomfortable. I glanced at Richard, hoping he'd know what to do because I didn't.
I wanted to help, but something about this felt wrong, like there was more to the story than she was letting on.
He took a deep breath, running a hand through his hair. "Isabelle, we understand this is hard, but...m showing up here like this, it's... it's like its.. it's unexpected. We're just not sure how to help." Her face crumpled, and for a moment, I felt a pang of guilt. But the unease still sat in my stomach, refusing to go away. This felt too close, too personal, and I didn't understand why she had sought us out like this.
"Please," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I... I can't be alone tonight." Richard looked at me, and I could see the struggle in his eyes. He wanted to help, just like I did, but he was wary, just as I was.
"Maybe we can help you find a hotel for tonight," I suggested gently, trying to offer a compromise.
"We can even cover the cost if that would help. It's just... we weren't expecting this, and we need to think about our own space, too."
She nodded, but her shoulders slumped, her face falling. "Thankn you," she said softly, not meeting my eyes. " understand. I just... I didn't know where else to go." For a moment, I felt a pang of sympathy, but it was quickly overtaken by the lingering suspicion that I couldn't shake.
She had found us here-miles away from where we'd met her, in a random restaurant, on a random night. And now she needed us?
Richard nodded, giving her a small, sympathetic smile. "We'll call a m nearby hotel and see if they have a room available for you." She didn't say anything, just nodded slowly, her gaze fixed on the ground. As Richard reached for his phone, I couldn't shake the feeling that this was far from over.
Something was still off, something I couldn't explain, and as we stood there, I felt the uneasy prickle return, stronger than ever.
