Chapter 99 Sarah pov The morning sunlight poured in through the kitchen window, warm and bright, spilling across the table as I sipped my coffee, feeling everything that had happened begin to ease.
It was finally quiet. No more threats lurking in the background, no more lies or secrets tugging us apart.
Just Richard and me, sitting together in the hwe'd fought to protect.
I glanced over at him, watching the way he seemed so at ease, leaning back in his chair with his coffee mug in hand.
There was a hint of a smile playing on his lips, a calm I hadn't seen in him for what felt like ages. I wondered if he could see the relief in my own face, the peace that was finally settling inside me. "We did it," he said softly, almost like he was still trying to believe it himself.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtI nodded, a small smile spreading across my face. "Yeah. We really did." The words felt light, almost surreal. After everything-the fear, the betrayals, the constant looking over our shoulders-it was hard to grasp that we were actually free.
He set down his coffee and looked atwith a thoughtful expression, a spark of mischief in his eyes. "You know what I think we need?" he asked, his voice carrying a playful edge.
I raised an eyebrow. "What?" "A vacation," he said, a grin breaking out on his face. "Hawaii. Just you and me, somewhere with no emails, no phone calls, no network, and definitely no Susan." The thought of a quiet beach, just the two of us away from everything, sent a thrill through me. It sounded like exactly what we needed.
"Hawaii," I echoed, feeling the weight of stress lifting even more as I imagined it. "Sun, sand, and cocktails. No more plots or schemes. Just us." He nodded, reaching out to cover my hand with his. "We deserve it, don't we? After all we've been through." I squeezed his hand, looking down at the way our fingers intertwined, feeling a warmth that went deeper than just the sun streaming through the window. "I think we do." The silence between us was comfortable, something I'd missed in all the chaos. I'd forgotten what it felt like to just sit and breathe beside him, with no tension lingering in the air, no suspicions gnawing at the edges.
It was a feeling of real peace, something I'd almost given up on ever feeling with him again. And now, here we were.
"So," he said, his thumb gently rubbing across my knuckles, "what are you thinking about?" I laughed softly, surprised at how easily the laugh cout. "I was thinking about us," I admitted. "And how far we've come. I didn't think..." I trailed off, not quite sure how to put into words the doubts I'd carried for so long. "I didn't think we'd get here. Not with everything that happened." He nodded, his gaze serious now. "There were times I thought the sthing," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "But we're here, and we're stronger for it. No more secrets, no more holding back. Just... us." Hearing him say that, with so much certainty, filledwith a sense of relief I hadn't even known I was still holding onto.
"I never thought I'd be able to trust someone like this," I said, my voice soft. "But with you... I do." His hand tightened around mine, and he gavea look that sent a little flutter through my chest, the kind that only cwhen I knew he truly saw me.
"And I trust you, Sarah. Completely. We've both made mistakes, but they don't define us. What we choose now- that's what matters." I felt myself smiling, a real, unguarded smile. "So, Hawaii?" I asked, the excitement growing.
He grinned back, his eyes lighting up. "Hawaii," he confirmed, a hint of excitement in his voice. "Let's leave all of this behind, at least for a little while. Just us, the ocean, and... maybe a few pina coladas?" I laughed, feeling lighter than I had in years. "Yes. Lots of pina coladas." It felt like a real plan, something tangible to look forward to. We started talking about which beaches we'd visit, which resorts had the best views, and whether we'd try surfing or just stick to lazy days by the water. Every detail made it feel more real, like we were truly letting go of the past and stepping into something new.
Then, as the conversation slowed, I took a deep breath, feeling a swell of emotion rise up. "Thank you," I said quietly, my voice trembling a little. "For fighting for us. For not giving up, even when things got... hard." He looked at me, his eyes full of a warmth I knew was meant only for me. "I couldn't let go of you, Sarah. No matter how messy things got. You're everything to me." The words settled in my heart, a balm over all the wounds we'd inflicted on each other over time.
We were here, finally, with nothing between us but love and trust. And it felt stronger, more resilient, than it ever had before.
"You know," he said, his voice softer, "I think we're ready for whatever comes next. No matter what. We've already faced the worst, haven't we?" I nodded, a sense of calm washing over me. "Yes, we have. And we cout the other side. Together." We sat in comfortable silence for a while, each of us lost in our own thoughts, but still holding each other's hand as if to anchor ourselves to this new beginning.

Finally, Richard stood up, his hand still holding mine, and pulledto my feet. "Con," he said, his grin mischievous. "Let's start packing. We've got a vacation to get ready for." I laughed, letting him pulltoward the bedroom. "You know, we still have to book the tickets and everything." "When I have a private jet?" he asked with a wink. "We'll sort that out later. Right now, I just want to enjoy this moment with you." As we walked down the hall together, I realized that he was right. It wasn't about the destination or the tickets or even the vacation itself.
The fact that we were here, side by side, with no barriers between us was fantastic, We'd fought hard for this, for each other, and now it was tto enjoy the life we'd built. We spent the rest of the morning dreaming up our perfect getaway, laughing and teasing each other, sharing stories and hopes for what lay ahead.
For once, there were no worries lurking in the background, no fears of what might be hiding around the corner. Just us, together, ready to start fresh. And as I watched Richard's face light up, his laugh filling the room, I knew that no matter where life took us next, we'd be ready.
Because, finally, we had each other-completely, honestly, and without reservation. And that was worth everything.
